01Setup Checker

Five quick checks. One useful next step.

Answer from what you can feel and hear. We’ll suggest whether to keep playing, consider a setup or let Otto inspect the guitar first.

This is guidance, not a remote diagnosis. No work is recommended or started without seeing the instrument and agreeing it with you.

Before we begin

What kind of instrument are you playing?

02What the work means

Setup, calibration and fretwork—without the mystery.

The aim is simple: a guitar that feels comfortable, rings clearly and plays in tune. The right work depends on whether the instrument needs adjustment, physical repair or both.

Setup & calibration

Measured adjustments that work together

A setup is not one tweak. Otto checks and adjusts the curve of the neck, the string height and the tuning accuracy up the fretboard, then balances them around your instrument, strings, tuning and playing style.

Fretwork & repair

When adjustment alone cannot solve it

Worn, uneven or sharp frets can cause buzzing, poor note clarity and an inconsistent feel. Otto inspects the fret condition first, explains the appropriate repair and provides a clear quote before any additional work begins.

What the checker can tell you, how setup calibration works and when physical fret repair is a separate job.

01Setup, Fretwork & Inspection

Can this checker tell me exactly what is wrong?

No. It is a practical first check based on common symptoms, not a substitute for seeing and measuring the guitar. If the result points to fret wear, damage or an unclear fault, book a free bench inspection and Otto will explain what the instrument needs before any work begins.

What does guitar calibration mean?

Calibration is the measured adjustment work inside a professional setup: setting the neck relief, string height and intonation so the guitar feels comfortable and plays accurately. We use plain measurements and your playing preferences rather than a one-size-fits-all factory setting.

Is fretwork included in the £65 setup?

The setup includes a fret and hardware check, but physical fret repair is separate. If the frets need levelling, dressing or other work, we will show you what we found, quote it clearly and wait for your approval before starting.

Where can I have the guitar inspected?
